Selecting the right photo can be quite a challange. Allow us to share the experience we gather from photocard printing. Hope this will help you in selecting the best photo for your personalised photocard.

Insufficient Image Size

For ideal print, the image size is preferably at 1600x1200 pixal and the image quality at 300dpi.

Simply set the image size on your camera (normally under function/settings/image size) to 1600x1200 pixal (approx. 2M file size). And set the image quality (normally under function/setting/image quality) to FINE.

Main Subject out-of-focus

When taking the photos, ensure that the camera focus on the baby instead of something else. Press the shutter release halfway to engage auto focus and press the shutter release completely when focusing is accomplished (often indicated with a green dot within the photo capture screen.

In addition, photos taken within the minimum focal length will not be in focus. Thus, when taking your baby's photo, ensure that the camera is not too near the baby (approx 0.5m will suffice).

Cluttered or striking background

Avoid photos with cluttered or striking background as it will draw attention away from your baby. When you take your baby's photo, you may like to have your baby lie on a white or plain bedding. You may also like to avoid overly striking clothings. Simply focus on your baby's eyes and smile in the potrait.

Poor Lighting condition and High ISO

Many compact cameras today offers intellegent auto function that automatically sets the ISO higher when used in poor lighting condition. While that is an excellent function, many cameras are not able to offer that without visible compromise (noise) to the image quality. For better photo, try to take the photo under better lightings conditions, preferable under daylight.

Image cropped too tight

To ensure the photo fits well into the photo card template, do plan for some allowance for our editing. When we receive the photo, we will do the necessary touch up and crop to size. Thus you need not worry that the photo has too much "frame".
